Hokies set to face Ohio State in NCAA second round
Tech plays at 3 p.m. Friday at Penn State


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The fourth-seeded Virginia Tech women's soccer team will face the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Penn State's Jeffrey Field.

The Hokies enter the match 15-3-2 overall ... Ohio State is 12-6-3 on the season ... Tech is ranked 14th in the NSCAA poll and ninth in the polls ... Virginia Tech is a fourth seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Last Time Out: Virginia Tech 4, Cincinnati 0

The Hokies opened play in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening with a 4-0 win over Cincinnati at Thompson Field ... Alani Johnson scored a pair of goals and Murielle Tiernan scored Tech’s first goal and assisted on the second in the win ... Tech’s stingy defense held the Bearcats to just three shots on the match, including no shots taken in the first half ... The shutout was the sixth of the season.

Chugging Right Along

Virginia Tech head coach, Charles “Chugger” Adair, is now in his fifth season at the helm ... He has a 77-28-7 overall record (.719) and a 28-21-4 record in ACC competition (.566) ... He is 9-4 (.692) in NCAA Tournament matches ... A full bio is available on page 4 of this release.


Senior Ashley Meier and junior Murielle Tiernan have been named first team All-ACC in a vote by the league coaches ... Senior Jordan Coburn was named to the league’s third team ... This is the first time two Virginia Tech women’s soccer players have been named to the first team in the same season.

The Hokies vs. Ohio State

The all-time series between the Hokies and Buckeyes is tied 1-1 ... Tech won the last meeting, 3-1, in Columbus last August ... Tech is 10-11-2 all-time against schools currently in the Big Ten Conference.

The NCAAs at Penn State

This is the third consecutive season that the Hokies have advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and the second straight year it has been played at Penn State ... Last season, the Hokies defeated Georgetown, 4-3 in overtime to advance to the third round, where they fell to Penn State, 2-1 ... Each of the last two seasons, the Hokies were ranked 14th entering the NCAA Tournament ... Last season was the only time Virginia Tech had ever played at Penn State.
