Tech Women's Tennis Defeats Tennessee-Chattanooga
Hokies post five singles victories and sweep doubles play

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Tennessee-Chattanooga, 8-1, today, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Hokies won 5-of-6 singles matches and all three doubles matches.

At the No. 1 singles, Ines Khelifi defeated Karolina Glowacka, 6-1, 6-2, before UTC's Daniela Greco defeated Michelle Martaus, 6-3, 6-4 to tie the match at 1-1. Tech's Kristen Stubbs won the No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Beth Henry, and Antonella Pozzi defeated Peita Horley, 6-3, 7-5, to push Tech to a 3-1 lead.

Tech won the last two singles matches as Kristin Lanio won 6-1, 7-6 (0), over Katie Hangstefer at No. 5 singles, and Bridget Bruner won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Jessica Barndt to give the Hokies a 5-1 lead after singles play was finished.

Tech dominated doubles play winning all three matches. The Hokies' No. 1 doubles team of Khelifi and Pozzi won 8-4 over UTC's Glowacka and Henry. Tech's freshman duo of Lanio and Stubbs came from behind to win a close second match, 8-5, over Greco and Horley. The No. 3 doubles was won by the Hokies' Bruner and Martaus, 8-1, over Hangstefer and Angela Miller.

Tech raises its record to 2-0, and UTC drops to 0-2 on the year. The Hokies return to action on Sunday, as they host Richmond at 10 a.m.
