Hokies Fall to Virginia, 4-3
Tech drops its second consecutive match, losing to the No. 33 Cavaliers

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team dropped a close contest to instate rival Virginia this afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, falling by a final tally of 4-3. The Hokies are currently ranked 69th in the nation with a n 8-2 record.

Virginia (7-2) won the doubles point then took three of the singles matches for the victory. Tech's Anat Elazari (So., Tiberias, Israel) won at No. 1 with a 6-7(4), 6-1, 7-6(2) win over Mariko Fritz-Krochow and Felice Lam (Jr., Seattle, Wash) defeated Lauren Bruch 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3.

Elissa Kinard (Jr., Charleston, S.C.) downed Dora Bechliwanis 7-6 (9), 6-2, to win at No. 5 and improve to 5-1 on the season. At No.2, Ginger Lowdermilk (Sr., Bossier City, La.) lost 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3, to Kristen James. UVa's Marta Bechliwanis defeated. Ashley James (Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) 7-6(7), 7-5 to win at No. 4 while Shannon Stough of Virginia beat Carolina Rodriguez (Sr., Bogota, Columbia) 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action Tech's team of Kinard/Lam, ranked 37th, defeated the combination of Fritz-Krochow/Bruch 8-4. Fritz-Krochow/Burch are currently ranked 38th in the nation. Unfortunately that would be Tech's only win in doubles as James/Stough defated Elazari/Lowdermilk 8-3 and Hammond/D. Bechliwanis beat James/Rodriguez 8-5 to take the doubles point

The Hokies will look to bounce back from their two match losing skid tomorrow, when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on North Carolina State at 2:00 p.m.
