BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team had no trouble remaining unbeaten with a 7-0 win over West Virginia Saturday night at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. The Hokies, who earlier in the day defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 5-2, improved to 8-0 on the year. The Saturday victories completed a 4-0 weekend for the Hokies following victories over Charlotte and Pittsburgh on Friday.

Tech won two of the three doubles matches to capture the first point of the match then swept the singles for the victory. Kristen Stubbs (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C.) had to come from behind in her No. 1 match to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 over Melissa Day while Carolyn Kramer (So., Manchester, Mo.) had no trouble at No. 2 picking up an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory against Courtney Howell.

Meredith Vincent (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) struggled at No. 3 before winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Anna Marie Underwood and at No. 4 Ginger Lowdermilk (Jr., Bossier City, La.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Catherine Koontz. Elissa Kinard (So., Charleston, S.C.) defeated Jennifer Watkins 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 and Zdenka Videnova (Sr., Skopje, Macedonia) completed the singles sweep winning her No. 6 match 6-3, 6-2 against Raynie Theis.

The Hokies opened the evening by winning the doubles point as Lowdermilk/Stubbs won 8-4 at No. 2 against Underwood/Watkins and Felice Lam (So., Seattle, Wash.)/Videnova defeated Howell/Koontz 8-2 in the No. 3 match. Kinard/Kramer lost at No. 1 to Day/Theis, 9-7.

"I am very proud of the way Meredith (Vincent) and Krissy (Stubbs) found a way to win tonight," said Virginia Tech head coach Lisa Hart. "West Virginia is a much improved team from last year and the ladies did a great job of taking care of business tonight."

Tech returns to action on Sun., Feb. 9 when the Hokies host Middle Tennessee State in a 12:30 p.m. match.
