Women's Tennis loses at #11 Notre Dame
Hokies drop second straight road match

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The 11th-ranked Notre Dame women's tennis team won the doubles point and then swept the singles matches to defeat 61st-ranked Virginia Tech 7-0 on Friday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Senior All-American Michelle Dasso led the way with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles to pace the Irish, who improve to 3-1 with the win. The Hokies (1-2) return to action on next Friday hosting Wyoming at 6 p.m.

Tech's Antonella Pozzi and Kristen Stubbs lost to the nationally eighth-ranked team of Dasso and Becky Varnum in the No. 1 doubles match 8-2. The Hokies lone win on the day occurred at No. 2 doubles where Ines Khelifi and Michele Martaus defeated Lindsey Green and Nina Vaughn 8-6. Notre Dame's Katie Cunha and Caylan Leslie rallied from 0-5 to win 8-6 at No. 3 doubles over Tech's Bridget Bruner and Kristin Lanio to clinch the doubles point.

Cunha then put the Irish ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Danielle Faucher at No. 6 singles. Lindsey Green made it 3-0 for Notre Dame by beating Kristin Lanio 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Nina Vaughan then provided the clinching win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Michele Martaus at No. 3 singles. Third-ranked Dasso defeated Stubbs 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Leslie then rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Bridget Bruner at No. 4 singles. Varnum's 6-4, 6-4 win versus Pozzi at No. 2 singles concluded the match.
