Hokies drop close match at No. 22 Clemson
Tech falls to 10-4

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Virginia Tech put up a valiant effort Friday afternoon before falling 4-3 at No. 22 Clemson in women's college tennis action. Tech falls to 10-4 with its' fourth loss in the last five matches.

Clemson swept the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match but Tech battled back to split the six singles events. In singles play, Carolyn Kramer (So., Manchester, Mo.) roared from behind to claim a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Ana Stiglic and Zdenka Videnova (Sr., Skopje, Macedonia) won a tough 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (7) decision in the No. 5 match against Ioana Paun. The Hokies' other win occurred at No. 6 where Felice Lam (So., Seattle, Wash.) won 6-1, 7-5 over Anna Dolinska.

Kristen Stubbs (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C.) lost her No. 1 match to 28th-ranked Julie Coin 6-0, 6-1 and Elissa Kinard (So., Charleston, S.C.) dropped a close 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 No. 3 match against Daniela Alvarez. Ginger Lowdermilk (Jr., Bossier City, La.) lost 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 to Laurence Jayet.

In doubles play, Kinard/Kramer lost 8-4 in the No. 1 match to Coin/Jayet while Lowdermilk/Stubbs dropped a close 9-7 match at No. 2 versus Alvarez/Alix Lacelarie. Lam/Videnova lost the No. 3 match 8-4 to Dolinska/Stiglic.

The Hokies will remain in Clemson where they will face No. 14 South Alabama on Sun., Mar. 2 at noon. Tech's next home match is scheduled for Fri., Mar. 7 at 2:30 p.m. against Maryland.
