Hokies Fall to ODU, 5-2
Tech falls to 10-9

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell to Old Dominion, 5-2, Saturday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 10-9 on the year.

During the doubles matches, Ginger Lowdermilk (Jr., Bossier City, La.) and Carolyn Kramer (So., Manchester, Mo.) defeated Julie Sotiriu and Coralie Herrmann, 8-5, picking up the lone doubles win for the Hokies. In the first doubles match, Kristin Stubbs (Sr. Hilton Head, S.C.) and Felice Lam (So., Seattle, Wash.) fell to Nataly Cahana and Maretha VanNiekerk, 8-6, and ODU's Kerstin Endlich and Verena Munzinger downed Elissa Kinard (So., Charleston, S.C.) and Zdenka Videnova (Sr., Skopje, Macedonia), 8-6.

The Hokies picked up victories in two singles matches. In the No. 4 match, Lam defeated Sotirui, 6-1, 6-3, and Lowdermilk topped Herrmann in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 5 match. In the No. 1 match Stubbs fell to No. 14 Cahana, 6-1, 6-2, while ODU's VanNiekerk downed Kramer, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

In the third singles match of the day, Kinard lost to Endlich in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. In the final match of the day, Videnova fell just short, dropping a close match to Munzinger 6-7, 6-1, 10-6 in the third-set tiebreaker.

The Hokies will be back in action Sunday, March 23, taking on Penn State at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Match time is 1 p.m.
