Women's Tennis loses at N.C. State
Hokies fall to 8-9 overall

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at North Carolina State Saturday afternoon at the NC State Tennis Center. N.C. State improved to 6-9 with the win while Virginia Tech fell to 8-9.

The Hokies, unranked for the first time all season in this weeks' WingspanBank.com poll, split the six singles matches but lost the doubles point earlier in the day.

Tech picked up its singles victories at No. 2 where Ines Khelifi defeated Jackie Leskovar 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 and at No. 3 as Antonella Pozzi captured a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Katrina Gildemeister. Kristin Lanio picked up the Hokies other singles win at No. 6 beating Myrna Bawono 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Kristen Stubbs lost at No. 1 to Kristin Lam 6-2, 7-5 while Michele Martaus dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 4 to Kristen Nicholls. Bridget Bruner lost at No. 5 to the Wolfpack's Jennifer Jassawalla 6-4, 6-4.

Tech lost the closely contested double point by dropping two of the three matches. Pozzi and Stubbs defeated Gildemeister and Leskovar 9-7 at No. 1 but Lanio and Martaus lost at No. 2 to Jassawalla/Lam 8-4. The pivitol point was decided as Bruner and Khelifi lost a close 8-6 match at No. 3 to Nicholls and Bawono.

Tech is back in action on Friday, April 6 with a 2:30 p.m. match at No. 64 Virginia Commonwealth. The Hokies next home match will be on Saturday, Apr. 14 at 9 a.m. against Davidson. All home matches are played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus and admission is free.
