April 11, 2002

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech Women's Tennis Coach Lisa Hart has announced the signing of Anat Elazari to a national letter of intent for the 2002-2003 academic year. Elazari will join the Hokies as freshman next season.

"We are extremely excited that Anat has decided to come and play tennis for Virginia Tech," said Hart. "She is very dedicated to both her academics and tennis and she has the ability to help us win the BIG EAST Championship."

Elazari, from Tiberias, Israel, is ranked No. 8 in singles and No. 2 in doubles in Israel. She was the Israel champion six times during her junior career from age 10-18. Elazari won the 1996 junior Macbi games title and was a finalist in the 2001 woman's championship at the same event. She has a doubles ranking of No. 573 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and is ranked No. 894 in singles.

Elazari will be a computer engineering major at Virginia Tech this fall.
