RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Richmond, 4-3, in a non-conference match at the Westhampton Tennis Complex this afternoon.

The Hokies (7-11) earned the doubles point after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Tech's duo of Elazari/Bethan James beat Carter/Klein, 8-6, in the No. 2 match. Facchina/Holmes of Virginia Tech won the No. 3 doubles match by default. In the No. 1 match, Harrington/Ashley James dropped a 8-0 decision to Cox/Wolfgram.

The Spiders (9-8) fought back winning the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles matches but it wasn't enough to clinch the match. Tech won the match with wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6.

In the No. 3 match, Bethan James (Fr., Flintshire, UK) downed Courtney Klein, 7-6, 6-3, for her sixth dual win of the season. Meredith Holmes (Jr., Bloomington, Ind.) also earned her sixth dual win on the year with a 6-4, 6-2, victory over Jelena Zivanovic in the No. 5 match. Julia Facchina (Fr., Glenwood, Md.) picked up a win by default in the No. 6 spot.

Anat Elazari (Jr., Tiberias, Israel) lost her No. 1 match to Lindsay Cox, 7-6, 6-3. Ashley James (So., Williamsburg, Va.) fell in straight sets to Robin Carter at No. 2. Kate Harrington (Fr., Richmond, Va.) also dropped in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1 to Meghan Wolfgram in the No 4 match.

Tech next plays at No. 14 William & Mary on Sunday, April 3 in a 11 a.m. non-conference match.
