CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Virginia Tech's women's tennis team was eliminated from the championship bracket Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 28 Notre Dame. Tech will play Saturday at noon against the loser of Friday afternoon's Miami/Boston College match. The BIG EAST Championships are being played at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the University of Miami campus.

Tech (14-13), ranked No. 71 in the latest ITA poll, lost both of the completed doubles matches, then dropped three of the completed singles contests in the defeat. After Notre Dame had won the doubles point, the Fighting Irish won three, straight-set matches to clinch the win. Carolyn Kramer (Jr., Manchester, Mo.) lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 against Christian Thompson, Carolina Rodriguez (Sr., Bogota, Colombia) fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 versus Kristina Stastny and Meredith Holmes (So., Bloomington, Ind.) lost 6-2, 6-2 in her No. 6 match to Sarah Jane Connelly.

Anat Elazari (So., Tiberias, Israel), Felice Lam (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) and Ashley James (Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) had their matches at No. 1, 3, and 4 halted once the outcome of the dual match has been determined.

In doubles, Elissa Kinard (Sr., Charleston, S.C.)/Lam lost 8-4 in the No. 1 match against 50^th-ranked Thompson/Thompson while Kramer/Rodriguez fell 8-2 at No. 3 to Connelly/Emily Neighbors. Elazari/James had their No. 2 match halted once the doubles point had been decided.

In the regular season, Tech defeated Boston College 4-3 and lost 6-1 to Miami.
