BLACKSBURG, Va.-The Virginia Tech women's tennis team is spending this weekend competing in the William & Mary Fall Invitational. The Invitational started today and will run through the weekend, commencing on Sunday. The teams participating in the event are Penn State, American, James Madison, George Mason, ODU, Marshall, and VCU.

Antonella Pozzi (Castellanza, Italy), Ines Khelifi (Quebec, Canada), Kristin Lanio (Ricmond, Va.), and Danielle Faucher (Great Falls, Va.) all won their first round singles matches. Bridget Bruner (Richmond, Va.) won her first match against Megan Skalsky (Marshall), 6-0, 6-3. Bruner continued on, beating Patricia Araujo (ODU), 6-2, 6-0. Bruner will match up against Leigh Ann Merryman (PSU), Saturday at one o'clock. Kim Karli (Lebanon, Pa.) succeeded over Sarah Granson (JMU) in her first round at singles play. Her second match is set against Theresa Whiteside (PSU) on Saturday at one.

Only one Hokies doubles team caught action on the first day. The team consisting of Bruner and Lanio lost to the team of Montgomery and Ho (PSU), with Penn State victorious, 8-0. As a result of Bye matches Tech's Karli will play with Penn State's Perez in a doubles match on Saturday against the team of Kannarkat and Sotiriu (ODU). Tech's Faucher and Khelifi will also see doubles action Saturday against Brown and Granson (JMU).
