Hokies finish Fall Season at UNC Invitational
Tech opens dual match season in January
November 7, 2004
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of the 2004-05 schedule on Sunday at the Inaugural UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational. The event is hosted by the University of North Carolina and was held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, where both indoor and outdoor courts were used in the tournament.
The tournament featured players from Duke, Miami, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Washington State, Winthrop and
Virginia Tech and the host Tar Heels. The tournament utilized a hidden-dual format where each match was a dual between two teams, competing either in singles or doubles. However, the event is considered an individual competition and no team scores were calculated. Instead, all results were recorded per individual and contributed to the players' ITA rankings for the 2004-05 season.
Sunday's final day began on a down note for the Hokies as they dropped all four double matches against Duke but bounced back to split four singles matches versus Washington State. The Cougars are coached by former Tech head coach Lisa Hart. The Hokies also won two of three singles contests against Minnesota.
