No. 26 Virginia ousts No. 64 Tech
Hokies eliminated at ACC Tournament

CARY, N.C. - Virginia Tech fell in a trio of singles matches at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday as 26th-ranked Virginia eliminated 64th-ranked Tech, 4-0 in the first round of play at the Cary Tennis Center.

The Hokies, the tournament's 11th-seed, finish the season at 12-13 overall, while UVA (13-9) advances to meet third-seeded Miami tomorrow afternoon.

The Cavaliers earned the first point of the match in doubles play as No. 17 Lori Stern and Kristen James defeated Anat Elazari (Tiberias, Israel) and J.J. Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.), 8-4 at the No. 1 position. Douglas Wink and Amanda Rales topped Tech's Ashley James (Williamsburg, Va.) and Jessica Brouwer (Maarssen, Netherlands), 9-7 at No. 2 doubles.

The remaining doubles match in the No. 2 slot between Virginia's Rachel DelPriore and Lara Alexander and Tech's Inga Beermann (Bad Saluzflen, Germany) and Abbey Walker (Lancaster, S.C.) was not completed because the Cavaliers had already scored the clinching point.

In singles play, DelPriore knocked off Elazari, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 position, Stern defeated Larson, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4, while Caroline Hammond topped Walker, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.

The remaining matches were not completed because the Cavaliers had already scored the deciding point, however, Tech's top player, Beermann, who was named to the All-ACC team earlier this week, led Wink, 6-3, 5-2 at No. 1 singles.
