No. 70 FSU upsets #62 Virginia Tech
Hokies come up just short, 4-3
April 9, 2006

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Freshman Inga Beermann (Bad Salzuflen, Germany), Anat Elazari (Tiberas, Israel) and Ashley James (Williamsburg, Va.) all earned singles wins on Sunday, but it was not enough as No. 70 Florida State upended 62nd-ranked Virginia Tech, 4-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies fall to 11-11 overall and 0-9 in conference play, while FSU improves to 9-11 and 2-8 in ACC action.

Tech trailed 3-0, before rallying to tie the match at three. However, Suzanna Monsour's 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Jessica Long (Elizabethtown, Pa.) clinched the Seminoles' second ACC win of the season.

Tech earned wins in three of the top four singles positions. Beermann, the 58th-ranked player in the country, scored a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Ania Rynarzewska at No. 1 singles. Elazari downed Alina Mihailescu, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while at the No. 4 slot, James topped Tapiwa Murobela, 6-4, 6-3.

FSU took the doubles point by winning two of three matches. The Hokies' only win came at the No. 3 spot where 37th-ranked Jessica Brouwer and Ashley James knocked off Murobela and Mihailescu, 9-8 and 7-2 in the tie-breaker.

The Hokies will travel to Maryland Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. match against the Terrapins.
