Freshman drops second round match

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Virginia Tech freshman Inga Beermann fell in straight sets to Baylor's Zuzana Cerna in the second round of the NCAA Women's Singles Championships Thursday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.

Beermann, a native of Bad Salzuflen, Germany, fell to 16th-seeded Cerna by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Ranked 53rd in the latest ITA/Fila poll, Beermann defeated the 42nd-ranked singles player in the country, Oregon's Dominika Dieskova, in three sets Wednesday afternoon to advance to the round of 32.

Beermann ends the season with a singles record of 29-10. She fell just one victory shy of becoming Tech's first-ever women's tennis athlete to earn All-America status.
