Tech routs Longwood, 7-0
The Hokies finish weekend with three perfect wins

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team earned their third win of the season by defeating Longwood, 7-0, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies swept both Appalachian State and East Carolina, 7-0, Saturday.

Tech (3-0), ranked No. 68 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), swept all three doubles matches to take the lead 1-0 over the Lancers.

Entering the singles matches holding the doubles point, Tech was able to clinch the victory with a 3-0 sweep. Jessica Brouwer (So., Maarssen, Netherlands) opened the action with a perfect game against Brittany Huddleston, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Karina Porushkevich (Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.) gave the Hokies their third point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Longwood's Romana Bucur. Bethan James (Jr., Flintshire, UK) won the victory point in the No. 6 match, defeating Lexi Torrice, 6-1, 6-1.

To wrap up the match, Abbey Walker (So., Lancaster, S.C.) gave Tech its fifth point with a victory at No. 3. She defeated Laura Simon, 6-1, 6-2. Natalie Kretzer (So., Chesterfield, Va.) edged out Ashley Melson in the No. 5 match, while Ashley James (Sr., Williamsburg, Va.) made it a clean sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Elena Triebskorn at No. 1.

In doubles action, A. James/Brouwer claimed the No. 2 match, 8-2, over Bucur/Torrice. M.K. James/Chelsea Cramp (So., Potomac, Md.) gave Tech the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Melson/Simon at the No. 3 spot. Tech made it three when Jessica Long (Jr., Elizabethtown, Pa.)/Walker finished 8-4 over Triebskorn/Davis at No. 1.

The Hokies return to action Saturday, Feb. 10, when they take on Marquette and Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. The action starts at 10 a.m.
