BLACKSBURG, Va.- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team had no trouble Saturday afternoon in defeating Davidson College 7-0, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

Tech (6-2), ranked No. 63 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll, swept the three doubles matches for the first point of the day, then took all of the six singles contests for the victory.

In singles, Yasmin Hamza (Fr., Cairo, Egypt) won her No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-2, over Kelsey Linville while Jessica Brouwer (Jr, Maarssen, Netherlands) had no trouble at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Kim Whelen. Tech received two other straight set wins as Abbey Walker (Jr., Lancaster, S.C.) won 6-4, 6-2, versus Michelle Fanney at No. 4 and J.J. Larson (Sr., Orchard Park, N.Y.) picked up a 6-3, 6-2, No. 5 decision against Alison Rauh.

The other two victories came in tight matches with Natalie Kretzer (Jr., Chesterfield, Va.) narrowly defeating Lora Dushanova, 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (5) at No. 6 and Jessica Long (Sr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) won her No. 2 match with a come-from-behind 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (6) win. A super tiebreaker was utilized in lieu of a third set since the outcome of the team match had been determined.

The Hokies swept the doubles to open the dual match as Brouwer/Hamza won, 8-3, at No. 1 over Berry/Linville and Long/Walker dominated the No. 2 match, 8-1, versus Fanney/Teresa Wang. Tech concluded the sweep as Holly Johnson (Fr., Tallahassee, Fla.)/Larson won a tight 8-6 match against Rauh/Whelan.

Tech is scheduled to face UNC Greensboro at 3:30 p.m. today.
