BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 70 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will conclude the regular season this weekend, traveling to No. 33 Florida State on Friday, April 13 and No. 9 Miami on Sunday, April 15. Match times are set for 3:30 p.m. and noon, respectively.
Tech (12-10, 3-6 ACC) is looking to bounce back after falling to Clemson the last time out. The Hokies’ freshman Carol Kahoun has tallied 13 wins in duals this spring while senior Shannon Betts has added 12 wins. Junior Emily Lauten has picked up 11 wins and senior Martha Blakely has nine in the No. 1 singles.
The Seminoles (11-8, 4-5 ACC) fell to Duke in their last match. FSU picked up the doubles point and a singles win from Francesca Segarelli at the No. 3. Segarelli holds a 10-8 record in duals for the Seminoles and is ranked 31st in doubles with partner Ruth Seaborne. The duo is 10-2, playing primarily in the No. 1.
Miami (13-3, 7-2 ACC) dropped a 4-3 decision to North Carolina the last time out. The Hurricanes picked up wins in the top three singles matches as Gabriela Mejia, Anna Bartenstein and Lina Lileikite nabbed wins. All three players are ranked in the ITA with Bartenstein at 18th followed by Mejia (25th) and Lileikite (61st). The Hurricanes doubles team of Liat Zimmerman and Melissa Bolivar are 12th.
Tech will next compete at the ACC Championships, April 19-22 in Cary, N.C.
