BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 6-1 win over Navy in the second match of a double-header at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on January 20.
The Hokies clinched the doubles point when Raluca Mita and Carol Kahoun defeated Emani Decquir and Sam Droop 8-3 in the No. 2 slot. Emily Lauten and Mariana Silva completed doubles play with an 8-6 win over Darien Sears and Logan Antill in the No. 3 spot.
Isel Martinez-Marcos tallied a convincing win over Erin Snook, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot for the Hokies’ first singles point. Carol Kahoun defeated Logan Antill 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 and was soon followed by Raluca Mita, who won 6-4, 6-2 over Darien Sears at No. 3, to give Tech the win.
Tea Ivanovic defeated Samantha Droop 6-2, 7-6 (5) to improve to 2-0 in 2013 and give the Hokies a 5-0 lead.
Navy scored their first point of the day as Stefanie Ton defeated Mariana Silva 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 position. Navy’s Emani Decquir rallied after a 2-6 first set loss to capture the second set 6-4 over Tech’s Ilinca Stoica. Stoica ultimately prevailed, winning the 10-point tiebreaker 10-8.
The Hokies return to the court Friday, Feb. 1, to take on Louisville in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
