    Hokies set for ITA Regionals

    CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will make the in-state trip to the University of Virginia for the ITA Atlantic Regionals this weekend. Play begins on Friday, Oct. 18 with qualifying singles and one round of main draw doubles. Finals are set for Tuesday, Oct. 22.

    Tea Ivanovic, Carol Kahoun and Sansitha Nandakumar will all see action in the qualifying singles. Ivanovic will play Gemma Valls of Radford while Kahoun plays Sam Droop of Navy. Nandakumar is seeded 5-8 in the qualifying singles and will play George Washington’s Grace Egger. Ivanovic, Kahoun and Nandakumar will each have to win two matches on Friday to qualify for the singles main draw.

    Already in the main draw for the Hokies are 5-8-seed Raluca Mita and Ilinca Stoica, as well as Francesca Fusinato, Kelly Williford and Isel Martinez-Marcos. Mita will take on Erin Snook of Navy in Saturday’s first-round action. Stoica will play Iktech Chahal from West Virginia, Fusinato will match up against Hailey Bennett of WVU and Martinez-Marcos will play Salome Kvitashvili, a 5-8 seed from VCU. Williford will play a qualifier in her first round match.

    The Hokies also have four doubles teams playing this weekend. Stoica and Williford lead Tech as the fourth-seeded team in the draw. They will have a first-round bye and will play the winner of Egger/Robins of George Washington and Sears/Porter of Navy. Also receiving a first-round bye is the team of Mita/Fusinato. The team, seeded 9-16, will play the winner of Lai/Saffrom of Delaware and Droop/Snook of Navy.

    Also in the doubles draw are Kahoun/Martinez-Marcos and Ivanovic/Nandakumar. Kahoun and Martinez-Marcos will play Mughnee/Osei from Howard, while Ivanovic/Nandakumar will take on Huie/Pinchoff of James Madison.

    Tech will be joined by Delaware, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph’s, Temple, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and William & Mary this weekend.
