CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team competed in doubles and singles action today at the ITA Atlantic Regionals hosted by the University of Virginia. Tech tallied two wins on the day.
Hokies Francesca Fusinato and Kelly Williford squared off in the quarterfinals of singles play. Fusinato defeated Williford 6-0, 6-2 and moved on to the semifinals where the freshman fell to 9-16 seed Rachel Pierson of Virginia 6-3, 6-2.
Fusinato’s day was not over, though, as she teamed up with Raluca Mita. Fusinato and Mita, seeded 9-16, took down 5-8 seed Xi/Faure of Virginia 8-4. The duo will take on first seed Belaya/Loomans of William & Mary in the semifinals tomorrow morning. With a win in the semifinals, Tech’s last remaining doubles team will play in the finals later in the day.
The final day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals will take place tomorrow at Virginia with the semifinals and finals of doubles and finals of singles taking place.
