BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team is one of 11 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in the preseason national rankings. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association slated Tech as the No. 54 team in the country entering the 2014 spring season. Freshman Francesca Fusinato is the only Hokie ranked individually, sitting at No. 82 in the country.
Tech will face many of the nation’s top teams this season as a potential 15 opponents of the 23 total have entered the season ranking among the top 70 in the country. The Hokies, who finished the 2013 spring season ranked No. 53, will also match up against nine top-25 teams.
Fusinato stood out for the Hokies during the fall season, coming up with some high-profile victories competing for Tech as well as at circuit events. The Feltre, Italy native advanced all the way to the semifinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional and finished the fall with a 6-2 singles record.
Tech will open the 2014 season on Saturday, Jan. 18 with two matches at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Hokies will host Elon at 2 p.m. and return to the court to face Davidson the same day at 6:30 p.m.
