ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 54 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team heads to the University of Michigan alongside Tulsa and Yale for ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning this Saturday.
The Hokies will take on No. 11 Michigan on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines have three players in the season’s first ITA Rankings in Ronit Yurovsky (No. 20), Emina Bektas (No. 21) and Sarah Lee (No. 100). They also have two ranked doubles teams with the No. 9 team of Brooke Bolender and Bektas and the No. 11 duo of Yurovsky and Lee.
No. 28 Tulsa will take on No. 36 Yale on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The winner of this match will face off with the winner of the Tech/Michigan match in the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. The losers will play a consolation match at 10 a.m., as well.
The winners of the 15 ITA Kick-Off tournaments around the country move on to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va., on Feb. 7-10.
The Hokies opened the season last weekend with two 6-1 wins over Elon and Davidson in a double-header at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Freshman Francesca Fusinato, ranked No. 82, brought home victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles during her spring season debut weekend.
Tech also brought home four doubles victories between the two matches.
